I remember when our two children said their first word, which brought us so much joy, and I am sure many of you can relate to it. In a Montessori environment, spoken language is a foundation of literacy. Songs, stories, poems, language cards all help build the child’s vocabulary. Children are introduced to Sand paper letters which enable the child to hear, see and feel the symbol and the sound.
“Ours was a house for children rather than a real school.  ….they have learned to read and write without the feeling of having been taught”
