The child enjoys being with adults and helping out in the kitchen and around the house. How often we hear “I want to do it myself", practical life activities helps fulfil this need.
Practical life activities, are simple day to day activities. These help the children to settle into the environment, its purposeful work, builds hand eye coordination, develops concentration, and perfects finer movements and coordination. Grace and courtesy activities contribute to the happy and compassionate atmosphere in a Montessori classroom.
They are purposeful and simple activities such as polishing shoes, chopping fruit, washing dishes, cooking etc. Working on these activities help the child to build concentration and coordination needed for the other activities in the environment.
"The exercises of practical life are formative activities, a work of adaptation to the environment"
